13/07/2007 - Legal Considerations in relation to EMFs and Precaution

Brenda Short LLB(Hons) LLM, our legal advisor, has worked hard to produce an exceptional 100 page document titled "Further legal considerations in relation to EMFs, powerlines and a precautionary approach, following the SAGE report published April 2007". This document considers in further detail whether existing legislation could be applied to any potential pollution from EMFs. It also considers other legislation in relation to powerlines / EMFs and how a precautionary approach could be adopted.

New paper on bird population decline

Alfonso Balmori and Örjan Hallberg have recently published a paper showing a highly significant correlation between the fall in urban sparrow populations and electromagnetic fields in the radiofrequency spectrum (specifically 1 MHz - 3 GHz). They conclude that electromagnetic pollution may be responsible, either by itself or in combination with other factors, for the observed decline of the species in European cities during recent years.

Survey shows 3 in 4 of the UK population are concerned about mobile phones

A survey, carried out by the European Commission, has found that 73% of the UK population are now concerned about the possible health risks of electromagnetic fields from Mobile Phones and 76% from their base stations. This is up from about 55% and 58% respectively in 2002.
